The first harvest in Darjeeling was interrupted by a lockdown in India and the teas we received were harvested early in the spring before the lockdown. Covid 19 problems and the big storm in West Bengal then led to delivery problems and major delays. Finally, we recieved the tees. It is a good harvest of very good quality. This years harvest of the first harvest has been produced to about half, so many will be without teas.

Jin Xuan Charcoal
Oolong tea of Jin Xuan cultivar. The tea is traditionally roasted over charcoal, a method that is very rarely used today. It is a method that requires skill in execution in order for the tea to strike the right balance. A taste of the charcoal settles into the flavor and gives the tea a character. It gives the tea a durability and the tea becomes storable with taste maturing over time. A very balanced tea, slightly sweet tone medium-bodied, with a slight hint of charcoal that gives a sharpness in taste and remains in the aftertaste.

This is an oolong tea from Taiwan of Si Ji Chun tea cultivar that has been stored since 2009. The tea has been pressed to a 100 gram cake for storage purposes, but is great to drink now. The tea is lightly oxidized and with a light roasting. The tea is steamed and pressed into a cake. The tea is balanced and has a fruity tone to the taste.

Sencha Sofu
Japanese sencha tea of unusual cultivar Sofu harvested May 2019. The tea is Ichibancha, first picking. A cultivar with aromatic characteristics sometimes used for this reason for more experimental Japanese oolong teas and which in this case does very well in this Sencha tea with a slightly floral aromatic hint of flavor. The tea has a balanced sweet taste with a mild aromatic flowery note.
Sencha Kirishima
Sencha Kirishima harvested early spring 2019. This is a high quality Sencha tea grown in Kirishima mountain range in Kagoshima, Japan. The tea is produced by Yabukita cultivar. Light, balanced and sweet taste.
Sencha Gaba

Harvested in November, winter 2018. This is a very lightly oxidized oolong tea from Taiwan with a 150 year history. The tea has an oxidation rate of 10%, but the tea is deep roasted which produces a clear taste that enhances the teas aromatic sweet notes. This tea has a very intense prominent floral aroma and flavor with a lightness and greenery in the taste.

This handpicked oolong tea from Taiwan is harvested in the winter of 2018. Fu Shou Shan is the second highest mountain peak in Li Shan mountain range. The tea is grown at an altitude of 2500 m. The cultivar used for production of this tea is Chin Shin. The tea is not roasted and is very light oxidized at a level of about 15%. Very well balanced tea, full bodied, sweetness, touch of cream, very light flowery notes with a long aftertaste.

This tea is produced for the largest of Taiwans oolong tea competitions in 2018, Dung Ding Tea Competition. The competition has reached the third grade, which only 16% of the teas achieved by over 6000 competing teas.

A couple of news has appeared in the assortment from Japan and from China from this years harvest. A number of high quality green teas from Japan and one from China.
The yellow tea Huo Shan Huang Ya harvest of the year. A very exclusive black tea from Japan with fruity tones of Benifuuki cultivar Kocha Benifuuki and the exclusive black tea Jin Jun Mei from Wu Yi, China, with malty, chocolate notes in taste.
